Job Summary: This position provides critical administrative and organizational support to the special education department by coordinating and facilitating Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings. The teaching assistant serves as a liaison among special education teachers, related service providers, parents, and school administration, ensuring that all IEP meetings are well-organized, compliant, and focused on student success. This role is essential to maintaining effective communication and timely implementation of special education services.

 

Job Description: 

  • Reports to Principal / Supervisor
  • Works under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher unless otherwise assigned by the appropriate supervisor
  • Schedule and coordinate IEP meetings with all stakeholders, including special education teachers, related service providers (speech, physical therapy, occupational therapy, behavior support specialists), parents/guardians, and school administration, ensuring accessibility and accommodations as needed
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of all IEP documents, meeting notes, progress monitoring data, and compliance documentation in compliance with FERPA regulations
  • Keeps school business, or student records confidential in or out of school or with peers in accordance with FERPA
  • Facilitate communication between the special education team and parents through phone calls, emails, and written correspondence to ensure clear understanding of scheduled IEP meetings
  • Support the special education team with general administrative tasks including filing, copying, scheduling, and maintaining special education program files and databases
  • Attend in-service and faculty meetings when directed to do so by the principal or supervisor
  • Establishes and maintains satisfactory, respectful working relationships within the school environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Obtained an associate's or higher degree; or
  • Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
  • Passes a test that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics.
